She stutters!

It may sound like nothing special to you, but to the person who actually lives through it it could be a nightmare! A difference of being a part of the group or rejected as some kind of an outcast.

Stuttering Therapy

Is there really a cure for stuttering? There are a lot of programs and therapies that promise to cure stuttering which is completely misleading. Nothing can really cure stuttering but one can overcome it if you have the will power to do so. It all depends on your attitude, yes, there are programs and therapies that can help correct the speech thing but the problem is, the root cause of stuttering is not in the speech at all, that is why speech therapies can give temporary results only. If you are going to a speech therapy then learn that you can only benefit some things in the program and don’t expect for it to make miracles and change your life completely by eliminating stuttering completely.

First thing is don’t expect to learn a technique which will cure stuttering. Again there is no cure of stuttering, you might overcome it or rise above such problem but there is no cure. Expecting to have cure will only make you more frustrated and stress thus worsening your condition even before you started.

Choose a program which does not focus in speech therapy alone. Remember that stuttering needs to be addressed as a whole. Know that the cause is not just speech problem, it involves the whole person, its emotions, fears, confidence, psychological state and a lot more that is involved in stuttering. Those factors that cause stuttering must therefore be addressed to overcome stuttering.

You don’t aim for complete fluency instead concentrate on what the program does to you. Fluency will come as a result of the program that you are taking. So don’t let yourself get burden on how to perfect fluency for it comes as a result later when you have taken in what the therapy really is teaching you.

Focus on the positive things in life. Don’t focus on why you can’t overcome stuttering instead focus on the causes of stuttering and be positive that you can overcome it. The state of the mind influence most of your accomplishment in life therefore be positive in everything you do and in time you will surely overcome this problem.

Get involved with support groups even after your therapy is long finish. To be with people who suffer the same problem can help you build up your confidence. You become a blessing to them in way that you encourage them as well they are a blessing to you for making you feel that you are not alone in this fight and encouraging you as you see people like you rise above their stuttering and has overcome it in time.
